Gramps just reported that he spent $400 at Costco.
“I would have been in and out with my walker, but they offered me one of those scooters. So we must have spent 90 minutes in there!”
Retailers pay attention here. The 90+ demographic is growing like crazy. Most in that age range that I know are mobile, but have a time limit before legs give out. Many are no longer driving, and they miss it. Case in point: my grandfather.
A few superstores offer electric shopping carts for the disabled. Walmart even had one stolen recently.
And we should point out here that it is one thing to offer wheelchairs, and a whole different thing to offer scooters, particularly for those who enjoy being behind the wheel.
Having 1-2 scooters on hand may not be enough, demographically speaking. I noticed there’s a petition for a Walmart in California to order more electric shopping carts; disabled customers are having to wait their turn.
I’m guessing Gramps will return to Costco soon. It turns out that shopping can be fun.
